Aaron Baddeley didn't just hit the shot of the day on Thursday at the Valero Texas Open. As it turns out, he hit one of the most memorable shots in PGA Tour history.
Baddeley, you remember, hit his tee shot on the 336-yard, par-4 17th hole at TPC San Antonio way left and into the trees. He took a penalty shot, then teed it up again – and hit that shot into the cup for a birdie 3.On Friday, the PGA Tour confirmed what we wondered – that Baddeley's shot belonged in the record books. As it turns out, his fateful feat was the longest hole-out of any kind on tour at least since 2003, when the tour began using its ShotLink measuring system. And, needless to say, it also was the longest hole-out for birdie.
According to the tour's records, here are the five longest hole-outs in the ShotLink era:
1. Aaron Baddeley, 336 yards at the 2015 Valero Texas Open
2. Shiv Kapur, 297 yards at the 2010 Barracuda Championship
3. Nicholas Thompson, 261 at the 2009 Frys.com Open
4. Johnson Wagner, 257 yards at the 2010 Sanderson Farms Championship
5. Marco Dawson, 256 yards at the 2005 Shriners Hospitals Open
As noted Thursday, there is apparently no video of Baddeley's feat. But this graphic illustrates his historic hole: (www.pga.com)
