Romans

1:1 Paul held himself as "a devoted slave of Jesus Christ" and was authorized to proclaim God's words. Words under his pen are from God's. He referred these writings as "sacred". (1:7)
1:5 "Through him we received both the generous gift of his life and the URGENT task of passing it on to others who receive it by entering into obedient trust in Jesus." Indeed, the task is urgent!
1:6 "You are who you are through this gift and call of Jesus Christ!" As what Jesus said in Matthew, to know who we are and be pleased with what we are is a happy thing. (Mt 10:24)
1:13 "...But something has always come up and prevented it." Paul himself had, also, tons of hardship and blocking to preach the good news!
1:17 經上所記:【藉著信祂而後稱為義的人才能擁有真正的生命。】Habakuk 2:4【信而後義,方得永生。】
1:22 "They pretended to know it all, but were illiterate regarding life.", the Great Reversal, Mt 20:16
1:24 What is "任憑"? "If that's what you want, that's what you get." God does permit us to do anything. (1 Corinthians 10:23)
1:28 "Since they didn't bother to acknowledge God, God quit bothering them and let them run loose." God permits humans to do what they've determined to.
2:5 "You're not getting by with anything. Every refusal and avoidance of God adds fuel to the fire." Isn't that exactly what I was doing before?
3:4 Psalms 51:4
3:6 "How else would things ever get straightened out if God didn't do the straightening?" God Himself is the rule, the scale.
3:10-18 Catena
4:3 Genesis 15:6
4:4-5+3:21-24 "If you're a hard worker and do a good job, you deserve your pay; we don't call your wages a gift. But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it's something only God can do, and you trust him to do it—you could never do it for yourself no matter how hard and long you worked—well, that trusting-him-to-do-it is what gets you set right with God, by God. Sheer gift." The pure essence of faith, the faith to God, to our incapability.
4:7 Psalms 32:1-5
5:5 "羞愧" here means "shortchanged".
5:16 "But Adam, who got us into this, also points ahead to the One who will get us out of it." The proclamation of the coming of Jesus Christ!
5:20 A better translation than Chn version would be as here: "All that passing laws against sin did was produce more lawbreakers."
6:16 "You know well enough from your own experience that there are some acts of so-called freedom that destroy freedom. Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it's your last free act." Freedom under our free wills is not true freedom.
6:19 "I'm using this freedom language because it's easy to picture..." Freedom here means frankness or boldness; lack of modesty or reserve.
7:21-23 Man, your name is weakness...
8:23 "The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We're also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance." Yes, I still feel pangs, instant pangs, waiting for His deliverance!
8:28 Every detail is worked into sth good! In our lives, lives of loving God! Since it is "every" detail, God also allows sth bad to build us up, if, and only if we insist or couldn't bear enduring sth bad to happen. So, no matter what is right, wrong, good, or bad is confronted before us, we just do what we should do, do everything in peace, and do what we can do. Leave the rest all to God. We simply couldn't control "every detail" and neither are we authorized to monitor the Rad der Sachverhalten!
9:13 Malachi 1:2-3; according to Hebrew, "I love" here means "to choose", while "hate" here not. Whether each person is to be used or not by God is purely out of His grace, not through personal efforts. The grace had already been destined even before people were born.
9:17-18 Exodus 9:16, 4:21
9:25 Hosea 2:23
9:26 Hosea 1:10
9:27-29 Isaiah 10:22-23, 1:9
9:32 "How could they miss it? Because instead of trusting God, they took over." This is so-called "self righteousness".
9:33 Psalms 118:22
10:5 Leviticus 18:5
10:6 Deuteronomy 30:12-14
10:11 Isaiah 49:23

10:20-21 Isaiah 65:1-2
11:3 1 Kings 19:10,14
11:4 1 Kings 19:18
11:6 "If they were only thinking of their own immediate self-interest, they would have left long ago." Immediate self-interest often makes me blind and stubborn. Why can't I set my eyes fixed onto those eternal and immortal?
11:8 Deuteronomy 29:3-4, Isaiah 6:9-10, 29:10
11:9 Psalms 69:22
11:13 "It's you, the outsiders, that I'm concerned with now. Because my personal assignment is focused on the so-called outsiders,..." Paul is a disciple God assigned for us!
11:23 "If they don't persist in remaining deadwood, they could very well get grafted back in.", which means: if they did persist in being deadwood, things would be very thorny...
11:25 Will all the Isrealites be saved? No matter if they once denied Jesus? What about those Isrealites who didn't believe in Jesus and then died? No, that's why Paul said it is easy to "misinterpete". "Israel therefore is neither totally nor finally rejected." (Wesley)
11:26 Isaiah 59:20-21
11:33-36 A praise anthem from Paul, catena style: Isaiah 40:13, Job 15:8, Jeremiah 23:18, Job 41:11, and Hebrews 2:10
12:1-2 "Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of imaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you." It's God's respond to Gabriel.
12:4-6 A Bruce's Scripture: "So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ's body, let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren't." Don't compare.
12:17-19 "...discover beauty in everyone. If you've got it in you, get along with everybody. Don't insist on getting even; that's not for you to do." Heartway's Scripture.
12:20 Proverbs 25:21-22
14:5 "So, each person is free to follow the convictions of conscience."
14:9 "petty tyrannies of each other" What a good saying!
14:10 condescend to: 帶著優越感表示親切[(+to)];以恩賜態度對待[+to-v]
14:11 Isaiah 45:23
14:21 What is "跌倒"? Things that might interfere with the free exchange of love. (我真愛這個解釋!)
15:3 Psalms 69:9
15:9 Psalms 18:49
15:10 Deuteronomy 32:43
15:11 Psalms 117:1
15:12-13 Isaiah 11:1,10, 12:12, 14:17
15:20 "免得建造在別人的根基上", is not translated out!! Why? Because it is not Paul's mission: "to expand and make better on other's harvest fields"  He was told to be a pioneer, bringing the Message only into where Jesus has not yet been known and worshiped.
15:21 Isaiah 52:15
16:22 Tertius, was the one who wrote according to Paul's dictation - an evidence to imply ailment on his eyes?
