Actually it was the tunnel that came closer to Danny. There was also the sound of chimes as it spiraled toward him. At this moment, Danny could no longer be bothered by those images and sufferings he had used to have - Sandy, the ambulance siren, etc., only the beautiful sound of seven harmonious melodies ringing in rhythmic moving.
Danny jumped into the spiral darkness. It was brighter and brighter as he moved ahead, and it was so bright that he had never seen in life. Bright but harmless, never annoying his eyes. To his right he saw a silver form approaching, like a silhouette in the mist, not very clear. As it came, Danny was encompassed by a sense of love, so deep and strong as a lover, a mother, a good friend can do multiplying a thousandfold. Danny also felt he had lost weight, becoming less dense, about 20 or 30 pounds. He became then an unencumbered spirit, burdonless.
Danny decided to regard this silver form, the Being of Light, as a 'he' though he never could judge it male or female by its appearance. The Being overwhelmed Danny, and he began to experience his whole life, feeling and seeing everything that had ever happened to him. It was as though a dam had burst and every memory stored in his brain poured out.
This kind of life revier was not quite pleasant, right from the beginning to the end, where Danny witnessed his selfishness and meanness as an unplesant person: angry childhood, stealing, dominating, picking-on, and fihgtings, a lot of fightings beating others up and bullying around, till his teenage. It was the most painful for Danny,in this relive review, to know that he had a fistfight and hurt others for fun. To him, it was more painful to know why he hurt people than what he'd done to people.
In his military period, he was trained and molded for the purpose of killing, some assassin operations especially. He also reviewed operations including to 'terminate' a colonel, women and children, even a whole village. Danny was quite happy as doing these slaughters then. However, in the review, he felt nothing but great horror and pain the victims had had, regrets and sorrows to trigger chain reactions his misbehaviours had caused, like those mourning family members the victims had never been able to see.
To review Danny's whole life, he felt that it took only a span of a few seconds, yet he felt eternally long. He looked at the Being of Light and felt great shame and sorry. He expected a rebuke, some kind of cosmic shaking of his soul. Instead, the Being of Light was touching him. From the contact he felt a love and joy that could only be compared to the nonjudgemental compassoion that a grandfather has for a grandchild.
Then the Being of Light 'said' to Danny, in telepathetic ways:'Who you are is the difference that God makes.''And that difference is love.' Till now, Danny was not quite sure of the exact meaning of this cryptic phrases. That was what he said though.
'Love?', Danny reflected,'How much love had I given to others?' 'If guilt were fat, then I must have weighed over 500 pounds.' The Being of Light moved away, sending him a message through telepathy:'Humans are powerful spiritual beings meant to create good on the earth. This good ins't usually accomplished in bold actions, but in singular acts of kindess between people. It's little things that count, because they are more spontaneous and show who you truly are.'
Danny was so happy to realize the simple secret to improving mankind. But he was also sad to know that he was stuck dead by the lightning, having no second chance to re-live again.
