Have you ever got a chance to tee off at a price 70% off? Or could it be plausible to frame your imagination on such basis? Well, the answer to both seemingly queer inquiries is optimistically 'happy' --- playing with the three boisterous maginicans on the Happy Course on a sunny windless happy day in the morning of April 29, only to see my own hapless score as high as the tallest building in Taipei...
As I stepped on the first tee, I was happy to know I would play great; vastly plain fairway, few hazards, shallow bunkers, meek greens, short trees, weak winds, and few OB pegs. Besides, the cart there is fully automatic; it rides itself, walking along fairways with the players in the monitoring under one caddy, who got a panel to control it in optionally manual mode. Thus we don't have to ride in carts, which would lessen the pleasure of golf. Afterall, wandering through the lushes might well be a part of the enjoyment of this game. What a smart design! All help indicate an unforgettable and record-breaking moment in my sensational life. Well, unforgettable? Yes, Record-breaking? Hmm, yes, but to the butt end...
I got 8 shots at the first hole, 9 shots at three, and countless 7s at the rest, three putters all over, fats and toppings that were hard to be cured, glaring at my sumptuous flair for golf and stunned by the wonderful performance of Magi Fan's 3 birdies and saving pars hole by hole with a cool finish of 96. Why?! Why did I play poorly in spite that my physical condition and the course design were both advantageous as well as my skills and confidence were ready to fetch me a single-digit? That is a good question. And I would solve it in two respects; my Coach told me:
1. THOU SHALT NOT DESPISE AN EASY COURSE. Carelessness and conceit can plunder the glory that should be supposed to be yours. My Coach reminded me of the story of David and Goliath, a young shepherd lad with an oblivious slingshot. My Coach's beloved only son also told me that for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. I should be playing with prudence.
2. THE COACH TRIETH THE HEARTS. The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the Lord trieth the hearts. So shall be my mental toughness. Though there was an improvement on my physical condition, yet my muscular endurance still could not stand the continuous practice from last Tuesday to Friday. Back-to-back training is still my lesson to be undergone. And I knew for sure: it's high time to have a steed show off his iron hoofs... Coach, thx for the assignments!
After playing, the guy with 3 birdies treated us to a grand 'bird feast' --- KFC. And I saw four people devouring and slurping, after a long, tiring summer day of swing. For me, playing in the Happy was not hilarious, but the Aesopian morals was exciting, and the teachings were happy. 'Happy' was 'not happy', rather such 'unhappy' finalized 'hapless'. And the ending is quite satisfactory. I feel so fine...
