A. Thailand's Water Festival (泰國潑水節)
If you want to go to Thailand in April, you had better take your raincoat with you. Although the rainy season will not come until a few months later, you will still be wet then. Why? Because April is the time when Thailand celebrates Songkran, the Thai New Year, which is also called the "Water Festival". During this period, people celebrate it by throwing water at friends, strangers, and almost everyone.

Water Festival is like a big party --- a big water party. For three days, people hold parades and splash one another happily in the streets. In the party, people are playing water "fights" so it is impossible for you to stay dry. Only older people can be spared. Besides, family members pour water with parfume (scented water) on their hands to show respect.

Whom to throw water balls then? Well, foreign tourists are the best targets. They get soaked whereever they go. But they should not get angry. This is just a Thai way of saying "Welcome to our country!"

B. Takeshi Kaneshiro's Many Faces (金城武面面觀)
Takeshi has a good look, and he could well rely on that to have a successful acting career. But his ambition is more than that. He tries playing some weird and crank roles. For those roles, his background helps him a lot.

Takeshi was born between two cultures --- Chinese and Japanese. He can speak five languages and made films in four countries. In Taiwan and Japan, he can speak like a local or a foreigner.

His roles differ from a quiet, lonely man to an assassin, from Hongkong action movies to Japanese dramas. He also showed up in commercials for cell phones and mineral water.

Takeshi is popular with various kinds of audiences, from drama lovers, action movie fans, and to house wives and teenagers. His unique background, natural talent, and good looks have made him one of the biggest superstars in Asia.

C. Protect Africa's Beauty (珍惜非洲)
Kruger National Park opened in 1927 and is South Africa's oldest nation park. Almost 60% as large as Taiwan, Kruger is home to about 300,000 animals. About 1million tourists visit there every year to enjoy nature in its original condition.

If you want to experience a little about Africa, then Kruger is a safe and wonderful palce. But you may not walk around alone. There are many large animals hiding in the bushes. It is possible to watch zebras running through the fields, hippos lying in the shades, or even one of the Five Big Animals --- elephants, rhinos, buffalos, lions, and leopards.

However, please don't try to hunt these animals. The park is built to protect them from mankind. Agriculture is hurting them even worse than hunting. Only by carefully protecting them can we keep them from extinction.

D. Kevin's Accident (跳水意外)
This week my son Kevin will not go to school because he got hurt. The doctor told him to stay in bed.

He was diving in Wulai when he had an accident. He should have been more careful. After all, he was a beginner for diving, and he was unsure of how deep the water was; that's why he broke his leg. It will take him up to 8 weeks to get over. The doctor said he should avoid moving around too much. If he is too active, he may be well again much later.

While Kevin is not at school, he still has to keep up his studies so that he can go further to the next grade. The doctor said he can still complete his homework anyway even though he is at home. His c ousin Tom will pick up his books for him and turn in his homework every day.

E. Making the Ring's Magic (話說魔戒)
"The Lord of Ring" has been ghought as one of the best fantasy novels. Bringing it to movie became one of the biggest projects in film industry.

The story was written by J. R. R. Tolkien in 1954. It began in an imagined world called "Middle Earth". There lived people with magical powers. The author carefully described the people and the places there in detailed such as Hobbits, wizards, and even humans too.

Trying to be as realistic and the same as Tolkien's original was a challenge for the movie's director, Peter Jackson, and his many co-workers. To make such film, talented artists, a very large cast, and advanced technology were needed. Jackson decided to make all three parts of this trilogy story at a time, and thus it made teh project of film making even bigger. After paying off all the hard work, the crew were happy to see their films were among the best ones.

F. Classical Cool with Maksim Mrvica (耍酷古典樂)
The concert starts like a normal rock show with dry ice and laser beam. But it is not. It is a performance by the Coratian (克羅埃西亞人) Maksim Mrvica, a young pianist who is inventing new ways to make classical music sound more popular.

Maksim was born and grew up in Coratia. He studied his piano there but later was interrupted by the war in 1990. Playing the piano helped him get through the war, he mentionedl. He remained in Croatia until 2000 and went to Paris to continue his studies. There he won an important international piano contest.

When he returned to his homeland, he recorded an album called "Gestures", an experimental piece of Crotian piano music. He didn't think such music would be popular. Quite on the contrary, it soon became a best seller.

Maksim's music is a combination of classical and modern electronic music. It is popular with both classical music lovers and pop music fans alike. Therefore, Maksim quickly became well-known all over the world.
