We have heard quite a few columnists describe the 21 century as an era of chaos. We have witnessed ISIS doing whatever they wanted due to their willingness to use extremely violence. We have seen Trump use Twitter to irritate North Korea, which led to Kim's restless nuclear weapon explosion test. But why should these international conflicts occur? As a member of the younger generation, raised up by a Taiwanese family engaging in international trading business, I always wonder why there is no one that is able to control the situation. It's a pity that the world didn't become a better place under those politicians' hands. And this is also the reason why my parents and my uncle, a zealous and devoted statesman in Taiwan for decades, always admonishing me to tell the nuances between what our government has promised and done.
As informed at Tsai-Hsing high school that Durham University is releasing their admissions guide to those who have a strong will and determination, I knew that it is the golden opportunity for me to be well-equipped in the field of politics. Being active in school societies and inter-class services for quite a time, I was elected as the class leader, vice class leader and PE agent to name but just a few. While being class servants, I gradually noticed that people always pertain to self-beneficial inclination. This may be, in my understanding, similar to that among countries and policies.
In addition, I was the director of my high school theatre club, it is quite a tiring labor because of serious shortages of theatrical resources at shcool, not to mention the poor network to mutual assisting in our club. Therefore I often had to take charge of all things from the very trivial things to the transcription of an entire play. On the leadership as a director, I once might not as well be qualified for my quick temper, yet I came to learn that being a listener is the first thing first to have others listen to you. After working out a way to cooperate properly, our theatre club won two titles of many artistic performances in Taipei, and nominated twice in national competitions, in which I acquired tiny pieces of what a leader ought to be prepared.
As for my family, my father is a successful businessman that influences me the most. His business didn't go smoothly at first. He started his own business on his own bare hands, and it is not easy for a Taiwanese to commence ventures at the first attempt. He once had gone bankrupted twice before I was born. However, in the face of adversity, he never gave up. While struggling to restart his own business, he didn't forget to keep me company. Because of my father's perseverance, I was not only able to nestle beneath a strong man's arms while growing up, but also learn what an upright person should be like by taking my father as a role model.
My top priorities are that I could apply what I have learned from college or my further post graduate study to my beloved fatherland, even to other corners in the world. After college, I hope I would be able to take response to international situations along with unexpected incidents such as brutal Rohingya's 'GENOCIDE' or North Korea's threatening missile launching, which devastatingly overshadowed the world peace. And this is also the reason why I do believe there must be a 'Third Way' to be abided by both opposing parties or ideas. Taking Sir Anthony Giddens as a learning model, we shall have a dream and obligation as residents in the global village that we devote what we learn to our environment to make the world better. Therefore, it would be my humble incentive as above said to apply for Politics of Your University, which has been one of the most privileged colleges concerned in England that will for sure grant me a stable steppingstone for my future plan with Your ingenious and strategic cultivations on politics.
