True Love
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am honored to be presented the opportunity today to have a speech about my 'last' learning experience. To be frank, there is not, and should be not, any 'last' experience for anyone to attain in his or her life for we are never too old or too late to learn till the last breath we take. I would not like to have my 'last' learning experience either for I am the very person that is always willing to learn. So this speech today would be only meaningful when the 'last' experience refers to the one I obtained and felt worth sharing last time. Keep learning as possibly as you can, is the reson I make fun of such punnery at the beginning of my speech.
Learning can be of many aspects and the topic today has to be consigned into a more specific field about which I perceived and was concerned every day. Today I prefer talking about my last learning experience on English studying. As a sophomore as I am on the major of computer science, it is still considered necessary and vital for a will-be programmer to keep pace with the contemporary English usages and expressions no matter on terms of informatic technology or on those of urban dialects. I, as well as most of you at presence, have many chances to communicate with foreigners from all over the world, who may speak various of tongues such as French, German, or even Japanese, and among whom we use English as an international or overnational means of understanding one another. It may be arbitrary or en rapport in the light of English being chosen, yet I would rather admit that English is chosen as the most common and popular language because it absorbs and acquires the most vocabulary and the most cultural varieites. Its forgiveness and 'compatibility' is among other languages second to none. Also it may be the easiest to get started and be applied as we learn it. One of my last experiences on learning English is thus realizing how useful and essential for me to apprehend this skill as soon as possible.
The other impressive experience on English learning worth mentioned here is the kaleidoscopic idiom usages English could ever consist of, which keeps fascinating me since my childhood, knowing English for the first time. There is perhaps no other language in the world that derives so many idiomatic and metaphorical expressions in such a complicated way and at so amazing speed as English does. For expample, we may know the word 'fine', which means 'good' or 'nice', sometimes also 'small' or 'delicate'. And we know 'print', which means to produce or reproduce a certain type of patters or symbols by applying inked material on paper, cloth or something else. However, there would not merely 'small words' or 'small pictures' when the two words are put together. 'Fine print' indicates the detailed wording of a contract, lease, insurance policy, or the like, often set in type smaller than the main body of the document and including general restrictions or qualifications that could be considered disadvantageous. Yes, the emphasis is the last sentence. 'Fine print' then refers to those unwanted infos that the sellers are unwilling to show or let their customers know or be aware of when signing a contract or carrying out a business transaction. We as not native English speakers may hardly fully understand such interesting expressions unless we 'read through' between the lines as well as adquate cultural breedings, which, in my opinion, are also the most luring part of English learning.
Learning itself is fun, no matter what we learn. Experience is unforgettable, as long as we do concentrate ourselves each time when we accept new ideas. We should not stop learning, so there's no last learning experience. Yet we should take each learning opportunity as if it were the last. And the last expeience is the starter lesson for the next experience to come. We could cherish our lives for it is so short for us not to linger away and utilze each of our treasurable experience to the utmost advantage. And of course, always watch out the fine print among us before making any decision in the coming journey. Good luck and thanks for your listening! And fk you all!
